Post Production of the CCRs

Editing the CCRs was the next step, after recording them to improve clarity and organization. First, we edited the first CCR into a talk show format to create a natural flow, by removing excess pauses, timing adjustments for questions, and ensuring that it flowed smoothly like an actual talk show.

Small adjustments were made during the editing process. As we recorded the CCR in specific clothes to be like a talk show vibe, we wanted the end product to appear polished and professional. So, we needed to have a number of things to do to achieve that goal. First, we had to trim clips carefully to make sure that each clip had proper framing. Second, we had to ensure that all of the clips were viewed as clearly as possible by the audience.

The second CCR, for the editing portion I created a PowerPoint presentation. Then I added the voiceover recording for each slide to explain what each slide was about.

Final Reflection on the Project

Looking back on the whole project I feel that working through the process was a good experience. From the beginning planning, writing the script, to filming to the final editing of the CCRs I learned about how much effort goes into making like even a short film opening. At every stage of the project there was planning and teamwork involved to make sure that each part of the project ended up fitting together as part of the final product.

An important part of my experience was gaining knowledge of the technical aspects of film production, how to use a Canon camera, as well as recording devices to get the best footage as possible. In addition, I learned that various editing techniques including sound syncing and color grading would impact the pace and emotional tone of a scene.

I am very content with how the project turned out. There were many stages of production like pre production, Production, post production, and making the CCRs that will allow me to better understand how to produce a film and how certain creative decisions will affect the final outcome.

CCR Production Process

We wanted our CCR to feel engaging and different than a typical interview, so for the production of our first CCR, we made this week in a talk show format, similar to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, by having a host interview a guest about their film and creative process.

In order to better fit the vibe of the interview format. We wore formal clothes like business suits to appear more like an actual talk show. By doing this, we made the overall look and feel of the interview more professional, which made the CCR better than what we expected it to be.

My second CCR, was done in a PowerPoint. The PowerPoint has a voice over talking about my ideas. The PowerPoint slides explain how I developed as a producer and used technology in the production. I chose to do it this way because it allowed me to arrange my ideas in order with images, while I would give narration for everything.

CCR #2 Research

Our way of reaching our target audience was through the genre of the film. Since the film is an action/comedy it can get the attention from many different ages, young viewers are a very strong part of our target audience due to the theme of cars and the underground racing culture. Most older viewers don't typically have much interest in modified cars or loud street racing.

When deciding how we were gonna approach the project, we wanted a audience that would connect with how street racing from the early 2000s felt like. Paulie, the main character is someone who viewers can connect with because he's a teenager in search of a cool looking modified car to become part of the car culture.

We are amateur filmmakers, and need a way of making out film public so that people can see. This will allow the audience of the film to watch and share it easily. In addition, we plan to use YouTube, because its an affordable place for people starting off to use.

CCR production ideas

For my first CCR, which will has questions 1 and 2, I am creating a talk show style video. My inspiration for it was The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where there is a host interviewing a guest about their films.

I choose this method because I thought it would be better to whoever is watching it. Also, rather than just reading the answers, they way we will do the interview will allow for a better explanation of the ideas through conversation. Further, this format gives an opportunity to create a more entertaining video, while still being able to answer the necessary questions regarding the film.

For my second CCR which has questions 3 and 4 I will make a presentation that I can give examples of how my production skillset has evolved, and the technologies that I utilized throughout the course of my film. In addition to my voice, the slides that will have behind the scenes of the project.

CCR #4 Research

CCR #4: How did you integrate technology – software, hardware and online, in this project?

While producing the project, we made use of technology. We used snapchat and WhatsApp to communicate between our group. For editing we used Premier Pro. As for our equipment we used a canon camera and microphones.

Like I said before, I am certified on Premier Pro, so it just made sense to use it. Since I have a lot of experience with the program, there wasn't too much trouble when editing. This is one of my first messing with color grading.

Our equipment definitely helped us a lot to get that crisp look at our project. The camera helped us get better quality in our shots. As for the microphone, it helped us get that incredibly good sound quality for the car sounds, the car sounds play a significant role in the film. Getting that sound of the cars right is so important because you don't first see a modified car, you hear it far away screaming at that high RPM and then you see it.

CCR #3 Research

CCR #3: How did your production skills develop through this project?

My production skills developed a lot while working on this project including filming, shot planning and use of editing software. When we first began this project, my shot planning skills wasn't the best and I didn't really have any experience thinking about how each angle of a shot might affect the outcome of a scene. I found while filming that shot composition and camera placement was really important to make a scene look more professional.

What I learned the most, is how to prepare before you shoot a scene properly. By thinking of what the shots are going to be. I also learned how important the places you shoot at matter when filming. For example, all the scenes we shot were at places I scouted before filming to make sure that the footage would look good.

Since I didn't finish my presentation for the CCR, I didn't developed my script yet. After I finish my presentation, I will build a script to go with the slides. This will help to make sure that what I say matches the points in the presentation.

Editing Process

During post production we plan to edit the color in a way to make a darker, more cinematic feel for the film. The goal of post production is to give the footage an overall look that is consistent with the feel of the underground street racing experience.

Our plan is to make some small adjustments to the brightness, contrast, and temperature of our footage. This is all part of trying to get the same type of look you would see in an early 2000s street racing movie.

Production Update: Filming the First Scene

We were able to shoot the initial Mr. Clutch sequence of our video on Tuesday. Before filming we had to get the right elements for the mise-en-scene. Since this scene will set up an underground feel so we wanted to be intentional with our choice of costumes as well as the props we used.

We visited Goodwill to see if we could find some clothing for Mr. Clutch. We bought a button up shirt, which was white, and a beige jacket to give him that serious look we wanted him to have as well as a metal briefcase that would be a very important element in our scene. As for Paulie's look, we didn't find anything to purchase. We just used black shorts with a black jacket to give him that laid back and confident feel.

Of course, one of the things we did was have our friend with his own Canon camera help us film. This allowed us to get better video quality than if we had filmed everything on our phones. Also the fried that has the canon camera also has the MK7 GTI that will be part of the film.

This weekend we plan to shoot the garage scene and the driving scene, and possibly the car meet scene depending on schedule of everyone. After successfully completing the first scene, we feel like we are gaining momentum for shooting out the entire project.

Group Meeting #2

Recently we had our second group meeting, we meet again with students from other groups to share our progress and give feedback. After meeting with everyone for the first time, I noticed that the majority of their stories were now a bit more developed, many of them already begun shooting some of their scenes. It was cool to see how diverse the peoples genres are as well as the different ways each person was planning their CCR.

Juana's film is gonna be called A MAJOR FLAT, its about a bad band whose only star is the keyboardist. The singer is jealous, the drummer is lazy, and the bassist is obsessed. It begins with a chaotic performance by the group in which the performance is interrupted several times, a lot of chaos is introduced by someone throwing a can at a singer, and a very large male audience member uses crutches to hit a singer who he says stole from him. She said her idea for her CCR might be a podcast using stick figures done in an animation.

Sriaka's film opening is an action film that revolves around a drug dealer who betrays other people and has a couple of shootings. There is some filming already done but not complete. The very beginning of this film consists of a kidnapping, flashbacks, and a fight scene. Sriaka intends to use an interview with the drug dealer character in his CCR.

Raina's film opening is about a girl that is facing the loss of her boyfriend and getting ready to finish high school. Raina is almost finished shooting her project but wants to add some flashbacks to her film. She also received clearance to use one of the songs she wanted to include in her project.

Camilla's film opening is about a psychological thriller based on revenge and an car crash. In this story, there is a male and female character, the female dies due to the car crash, while the male character survives but lives through the female’s imagination. The beginning of her story is 1 year after the incident.

Overall, this meeting helped me see how everyone is developing their ideas and planning their CCRs. It was useful to hear feedback and compare our progress.
